Manila in the Claws of Light is a 1975 Filipino drama film directed by Lino Brocka based on the novel In the Claws of Brightness by Edgardo M. Reyes. It is considered by many as one of the greatest films of Filipino cinema.
Julio, a young fisherman, leaves his village to go to Manila, where he hopes to find his fiancée Ligaya, who went there for her studies and from whom he hasn’t heard anything. In order to make a living, he gets a job as a worker on a construction site, but he will soon discover the slums of the Filipino capital.
